CALL FOR PAPERS

The European Studies Section (SEE) of the Portuguese Political Science Association (APCP) invites APCP members who conduct research or have an interest in European Studies to submit a paper proposal for inclusion in a panel organised by the SEE as part of the 13th APCP Congress 2027, to be held at the University of Évora from 18 to 20 March 2027.

Panel Title: Change and Continuity in the European Union in Times of Turbulence

Panel Objective: Researchers are invited to submit papers related to the European Union in the context of the polycrisis that has shaped its strategic agenda and the actions of its various institutions. Papers should emphasise patterns of change and/or continuity in the European Union’s response to the challenges it faces in times of turbulence.

By way of example, contributions may address:

(i) The international role of the European Union in the context of the geopolitical challenges arising from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and conflicts in the Middle East.
(ii) Opportunities for deepening European integration in the context of global geopolitical tensions.
(iii) Challenges arising from migration flows.
(iv) Adjustment to inflation resulting from rising oil prices.
(v) Trade wars.
(vi) The Digital European Union: opportunities and constraints.
(vii) Future enlargements of the European Union.
(viii) The consequences of populism and nationalism for European Union values.
(ix) Institutional dynamics of the European Union.
(x) Relations between the European Union and its Member States.

Deadline for submissions: 15 September 2026.

Proposal format:

(a) Title of the paper.
(b) Name, institutional affiliation, email address, and a short biographical note (up to 150 words).
(c) Abstract (up to 220 words).
