André Freire 1961-2024

The Portuguese Political Science Association pays tribute to André Freire, one of the protagonists in the consolidation of Political Science as an autonomous and independent field of research in Portugal.
Born in 1961, he was Professor of Political Science at the ISCTE-Instituto Universitário de Lisboa and Researcher at CIES-ISCTE, having dedicated his career to the analysis of political ideologies, electoral behavior and democratic representation. He was also the Director of the Doctoral Program in Political Science at ISCTE, and he directed the Observatory of Democracy and Political Representation at CIES-ISCTE, promoting research on democratic quality and civic participation. His vast scholarly writings constitute an invaluable legacy for future generations of political scientists.
